As water passes through the filter, it is passed through biological media and exposed to ultraviolet rays. In additional to the protection of traditional biological media, ultraviolet rays zap the water to destroy single cell organisms such as bacteria, viruses, and especially algae in suspension.
Water temperature will effect the biological activity in a pond. If the water is to cold or to hot, the bacteria will go into dormancy. Any and all filters will lose their efficiency as a result of diminished biological activity. Water temperatures above 78* and below 60* will cause the reduction of activity by the bacteria. It is important at this time to reduce the feeding, while testing the pond water regularly. When these temperatures occur, most of us will experience green water.
